2007 SCYSA Young Female Referee
of the Year
Stephanie Gauthier has been recognized as one of the premier
referees in SC Youth Soccer not only for her expert handling
and strong presence during competitive games, but also
for the special attention she brings to providing safety
to all players. Although it’s often lost to spectators
and participants during a game, preparation for the game
begins well before kick-off, requiring necessary field
and goal safety checks that prevent accidents. Surveying
a field requires diligence and a special eye for seeing
problem areas. A faulty net could fail to catch a game-winning
goal, or an improperly lined field could compromise the
players’ space.
In the Premier Division of SC Youth Soccer
Stephanie is well known as the referee who beats the players
and coaches to the field. She runs through a thorough
checklist and knows that in addition to owning up to the
responsibilities a referee has to see that the field is
in game shape, punctuality is the precursor to authority.
Her presence is established before the players even take
the field.
Another outstanding quality that Stephanie
possesses as a referee is her willingness to cover games
where referees are assignors are scrambling to find someone
willing to work on such short notice. SC Youth Soccer
commends Stephanie Gauthier for her work ethic, attitude
and true love for this game.
